This document is a BluePrint, not a Resume or CV. It is intended to demonstrate both the strategy and experience
of Jason Lind in terms of Transformation Engineering. He is not looking for a traditional job and expects this
format to be controversial.
The second page is a cover page, the third is the StrategyPrint which details in a time series fashion at what scale
Jason has been doing Transformation Engineering at throughout his career. This is followed by TechPrint which
presents the various technologies Jason has used. Page 5 has a list of recommendations for Jason Lind followed by
a synopsis of his business/management philosophy.
The rest of the BluePrint is ResumePrint that details the experiences of Jason Lind in a more traditional format.
WHAT IS TRANSFORMATION ENGINEERING?
Transformation Engineering is defined as the discipline where
business and technical strategy intersect. That is a
Transformation Engineer looks to drive business decisions in
terms of technical solutions and the technical solutions in
terms of business.
The Transformation Engineer does this by working with both
C-Level Management and IT to understand the organizations
management philosophy and help their clients clearly define
goals and priorities. Goals are simply the stated objective of
the organization, and the best organizations generally have
goals beyond just pure speculation. Priorities are technical
objectives to meet those stated goals and are what all
requirements feed off of.
An early draft of a unified system (circa 2008) implementing this philosophy can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/goalstruct

ABOUT JASON LIND
Jason Lind is a visionary Transformation Engineer with over 20 years of professional
experience in Information Technology, consulting in a wide variety of industries. He
formally started his consulting practice in 2002 while an undergraduate at Marquette
University majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering, at age 16.
Jason’s breadth of industry experience enables him to suggest new business processes that
take advantage of modern technology. He works with stakeholders to revolutionize his
clients’ businesses and leads the technical implementation of enterprise level solutions.
His primary technical experience is on the Microsoft platform and specializes in the initial
design and framework development of greenfield projects.
Jason has moved between clients often in the past. This is a function of his clients not
understanding Transformation Engineering which, until recently, Jason has not been able
to explain in a way to make the position he wants marketable. While his clients have
always been ecstatic with his work he has been unhappy with how they treat him in the
context of the organization, if not the team.
Transformation Engineering is defined as using technology to drive business strategy by
understanding the management team’s philosophy and applying it at every aspect of the
enterprise. As a Transformation Engineer Jason has been successful in affecting real
change at the Component, Solutions and Enterprise scale throughout his career. While this
definition and naming schema is new, the processes Jason employs are not. They are tried
and tested and he can point to numerous examples at all his clients listed where he
affected substantive business strategy changes through his use of technology.

TECHNICAL STRATEGY
Jason is a strong proponent of the Microsoft stack as he believes tooling is one of the
most important considerations for modern development and that no one makes better
tooling than Microsoft.
He believes that organizations often need custom solutions because custom solutions
enable his clients to bake in their unique business processes and philosophy into an
enterprise solution. While off the shelf solutions should be considered they often box
clients into a methodology that is not their own and technology choices end up dictating
business processes not the other way around.

“A spider conducts operations that resemble those of a weaver, and a bee puts to shame many an architect in the

RECOMMENDATIONS
“Jason did a great job of designing and coding the WCF portion of our project in a short period of time.”
-David Shulman, Principal, Komico
“Jason is an excellent architect and has a strong ability to come up to speed very quickly with complex business rules and implement
them as high quality software solutions.”
– Tom McKee, Vice President, Mesirow Financial
“… Jason's superior Architectural skills and design knowledge exemplified the best use of the latest .NET 3.5 capabilities and
techniques while adhering to industry accepted patterns and practices... His insightful development of Generic based helper
functionality dramatically increased developer productivity and provided a new standard for maintainability. Jason is also a prolific
researcher and is poised to help companies move to the next level of architectural design...”
– Chuck Goodspeed, Senior Architect, Northern Trust Bank
"Jason is an excellent development resource. He always meets or exceeds expectations. He commands the respect of his peers and
is a welcomed addition to the team. I highly recommend Jason for any .Net work."
– Daniel Schuffert, Vice President - Global IT Strategy and Architecture, Aon Corporation
"We hired Jason to come in and build out a web services API for our syndicated service. He hit the ground running and rapidly built
out a robust system complete with documentation and sample code."
- Mark Roeser, Vice President - Data Applications, comScore
"Jason is the superman of developing a robust layered architecture. I have seen him single handedly wield XML like a lightning-rod
through the depths of SQL Server and .NET Enterprises to create performant and malleable solutions. If you are not sure what your
architecture should look like, call him. He already knows. He fixed it last week."
– Jeff Rafter, CIO, Mortgage Industry Standards Maintenance Organization (MISMO)
"Jason has an excellent knowledge of emerging technology. He can excel in fast-paced environments requiring advanced software
design. His best work is in POC environments working out core solution technical challenges."
– Carl Franklin, Managing Partner and Solutions Architect, TritonTek
"Jason has worked with me several times in my architecture practice where he helped research emerging technologies and produce
technical drawings. He is a self-starter that comes to the table with creative ideas and out of the box thinking. He has a superior
intellect and has brought his considerable intelligence to bear on meeting my challenges."
– Jeff Brock, CEO, iTDept.com
“Jason consistently demonstrated his excellence in all areas of his work at Freedows, but even more strongly so in terms of project
management and conceptual design. Based on his performance there, I would have absolutely no hesitation to recommend him for
senior-level development, senior-level project management and senior-level software design positions. Although he sometimes has
a very unorthodox way of approaching IT-related and project-related challenges, he is the type of individual that consistently
exceeds expectations even in the most demanding (and even hostile) of situations.”
– Reece Sellin, Project Lead, Freedows OS Project
BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT STRATEGY
Jason believes that in order for corporations to succeed their employees must buy into the philosophy
and goals of that corporation. He therefore suggests keeping teams small and having membership of
those teams overlap and avoid hierarchical structures where possible. Corporations should exist to
deliver value to their customers, not just to make a profit. Therefore Jason avoids clients who have a
pure speculative strategy.
Jason believes every person in an organization should approach situations as if they are the leader, he
expects his team members to make suggestions and challenge each other’s decisions and that in a small
team consensus is not only achievable but necessary to keep everyone on board with the direction.
There should be no separation between business and technology as business should drive technology
decisions and technology should drive business decisions. Jason believes that the best business models
are service oriented, and technology should reflect that by providing easy integration points for thirdparty
systems.
“The enemy knows thy system” – CLAUDE SHANNON
The value of software is not in its bits and bytes but in its overall provided solution, and that means that
in order for most software to have value the data needs to be present, not just the algorithmic code.
Therefore opening source up to third parties is not disadvantageous in most situations and often enables
development of a more effective code base. Integration with third-party data providers is also critical,
Facebook’s API is a great example of that.
“Speculation is the root of all evil”
GORDON GEKKO
“Even the striving for equality by
means of a directed economy can
result only in an officially enforced
inequality – an authoritarian
determination of the status of each
individual in the new hierarchical
order.” FRIEDRICH VON HAYEK
“All, too, will bear in mind this sacred
principle, that though the will of the
majority is in all cases to prevail, that
will to be rightful must be
reasonable; that the minority possess
their equal rights, which equal law
must protect, and to violate would be
oppression.” THOMAS JEFFERSON
“The enemy knows thy system”

“All human situations have their inconveniences. We feel those of the present but neither see nor feel those of the future; and hence we often
make troublesome changes without amendment, and frequently for the worse.” BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

LIND INNOVATION – EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT / CHIEF STRATEGY OFFICER / CHIEF SOFTWARE ARCHITECT
(SEPTEMBER 2008 – MARCH 2016)
Jason founded Lind Innovation to be a beacon of innovation in an increasingly conservative risk adverse climate. In addition to being
the holding company for Jason’s contract work, Lind-I was a research hub for areas such as math and economics.
UNITED AIRLINES – LEAD SOLUTIONS ARCHITECT
(OCTOBER 2015 - PRESENT)
Jason initially interviewed at United for a Senior Engineer position and after the interview was offered the Lead Solutions Architect
on the Merchandising IT team. The Merchandising team develops the backend services for pricing, fulfillment and cancellation of all
non-airfare products that are not purchased with Airline Miles. This includes products such as Economy Plus, Primer Access, Baggage
and Airline Miles themselves.
When Jason arrived United was primarily using cumbersome rules based technology to price their products and were in the process
of integrating competing statistical modeling platforms to do real-time analytical analysis with a feedback loop. United has an
existing proprietary modeling platform that they use to price their tickets that is well established and understood, however it
unfortunately does not allow for real-time updates to the model and instead batches the updates over a long period time. The other
product under consideration, and partially implemented, is an Oracle RTD solution that does provide that real-time feedback link.
Jason performed a detailed architecture analysis and code reviews of the existing systems to prepare for the implementation of a
solution that would randomly send half of the customer requests through the proprietary modeling platform and half through the
RTD solution. He identified many issues with the existing infrastructure and designed an iterative approach to upgrading the
solutions under a common United Enterprise Library.
Within the first month he has largely developed the basis for UEL and refactored two core platforms. The Reporting Service platform
is fed messages and processing artifacts, such as performance, from other services via MSMQ using the WCF netMSMQ binding and
then performs ETL operations on the messages. Jason quickly significantly streamlined the architecture to provide for the ability
enrich the data transformations in a common pipeline using a factory pattern that inspects the messages. He also made significant
performance and data maintained enhancements to this layer, all without changing the existing external schema enabling the
dependencies to be unware of the massive changes. He also made a common infrastructure for their various batch/on-demand jobs.

HALLMARK DATA SYSTEMS – LEAD SOLUTIONS ARCHITECT
(MARCH 2015 – AUGUST 2015)
Hallmark Data Systems, a division of EBSCO, is a leader in marketing services for media owners. They consume and process data for
marketing clients. Jason was brought in to develop the architecture and lead the implementation of an enterprise solution to replace
their existing AS400 infrastructure. The AS400 had some severe limitations and was preventing Hallmark from not only expanding
their services, but also hindering operations enterprise wide.
Hallmark originally started development on this new platform in November 2014 and for various reasons the project was failing.
Jason first assessed the state of the current project and made recommendations on how to move forward, he determined that the
data model was sound but the application tier was poorly designed and needed to be completely reworked. Jason suggested an
iterative approach to replace existing features, as in spite of the architecture limitations they did have a nearly working prototype of
their requirements. The CTO made the decision to throw out the entire code base and start from scratch.
Jason spent the next 5 months designing and developing an enterprise grade rapid application framework that would be used to
quickly deliver functionality regardless of what business requirements were conceived of. This included the ability to markup the
business logic layer to expose methods as WebAPI operations and used a customized version of Swashbuckle to deliver Swagger
schema definitions of those operations.
The data layer was a custom ORM relying on stored procedures to communicate and a generalized repository structure to manage
the code. The ORM could instruct the stored procedures to filter, sort and page based on a JSON based SQL CLR User Defined Type
Jason wrote which used a custom Domain-Specific-Language (DSL) to instruct the application tier on how to hydrate the results. This
ORM supported both strongly typed and dynamically typed data enabling attributes to be added to the data model at runtime
without recompilation.
The metadata around these “application views” was consumable by the front end and enabled the user to customize the UI while
interacting with that metadata. Using TypeScript, Knockout and Angular Jason wrote UI framework components to achieve this. He
wrote a run time, compiler and IDE for the DSL and metadata that developers could use to manage the metadata and make the
framework truly operational.

GUGGENHEIM PARTNERS – LEAD SOLUTIONS ARCHITECT
(JUNE 2014 – DECEMBER 2014)
Guggenheim Partners is a private equity firm based in downtown Chicago with over
$210bn in assets under management.
The first project was the core client billing system, which had extremely complex (and undocumented) rules to calculate periodic
invoices from Assets-Under-Management. The current system was an Excel/Access combination written in VBA and was not
distributed and inaccurate. Jason worked with stake holders to understand the rules and developed a calculation engine in C#. He
then developed a data model in SQL Server 2008 R2 to store the rules, intermediate calculations and final invoices along with an
interface to a system that provided the AUM (previously a manual process). Then Jason built out an Invoice generator which
generated invoices from the calculated data into a PDF using various excel templates. Finally he built an ASP.NET MVC front end for
the billing department to use as their primary portal for invoicing customers.
Jason was then tasked with migrating an Access application that managed Credit rating history for investments, the application was
being used by 80+ users and was often crashing. He designed a solution in ASP.NET MVC and SQL Server that delivered the same
functionality and used Knockout to update calculations from various inputs in real-time on the screen as the users were used to in
Access. He also proposed and implemented a link to Bloomberg that automatically fetched some of the credit ratings that were
previously manual import processes. He also delivered a data model where the investment’s data points were stored as strongly
typed key value pairs for historical retrieval and engineered the data layer to interact with such a model.
Jason was also tasked with redesigning a batch processing service written in VB.NET 2.0 that was very ridged and functionally
designed to a more object-oriented and services-oriented approach.
.NET 4.5.1, C#, ASP.NET MVC 5, SQL Server 2008 R2, Entity Framework 6.1, DevExpress ASP.NET MVC Extensions & Document Server
KOMICO – LEAD APPLICATION ARCHITECT
(MAY 2013 – JUNE 2013)
Komico is a small trading company located in downtown Chicago. Jason was brought in to build out a framework for a trading
application. The principal was very protective of his trading strategy and wanted an application that non-trading strategy
components could be built and tested without the actual trading strategy. There were two main external components: an interface
to a third-party trading platform that would execute the trades and a service that provided equity price quotes and earnings history.
Jason proposed and implemented an architecture where these components would run as windows services and communicate to the
main application using WCF. The main application, to configure and execute the trading strategy, Jason proposed and implemented
in WPF as the client did not have the infrastructure for web servers and did not trust the cloud. In several weeks Jason built out all
the infrastructure to the point where the principal could write the trading strategy and outsource the development of the
dependent components. .NET 4.5, C#, WPF, MVVM, Prism 4, SQL Server 2012, Sparx Enterprise Architect, Entity Framework 5, WCF
MESIROW FINANCIAL – LEAD SOLUTIONS ARCHITECT
(FEBRUARY 2013 – APRIL 2013)
Mesirow Financial is a large financial services firm headquartered in downtown Chicago. Jason was brought in to lead the
development of an internal application for managing currency trading and integrating compliance through strongly modeling their
currency management contracts that they have with their clients. The application was a reboot of previous efforts which failed to
deliver the needed functionality to Mesirow.
First Jason met with stake holders to understand the requirements and quickly discovered that the proposed data model did not
meet those requirements and worked with a database designer to refactor. The main missing ingredient was history, the business
really needed to be able to understand what the requests were that changed each record and a history of those changes. This was
accomplished through creating a history schema that mirrored the primary schema and introduced a concept of change sets and
using triggers to update these tables.
The application tier was a complete throw away, Jason introduced a three tier architecture and proposed using MVC but the client
decided it was impractical to educate their existing developers, who understood Web Forms, to use that technology. The project was
well underway when a new CIO was hired and decided to outsource the project to an external firm. From Jason’s understanding that
firm was not able to deliver a product that met the business requirements and as of now Mesirow still doesn’t have an integrated
solution for currency trading and compliance. .NET 4.0, C#, ASP.NET Web Forms, SQL Server 2008 R2, Entity Framework 4, Telerik
ALPHAMETRIX – SENIOR SOLUTIONS ARCHITECT
(DECEMBER 2011 – APRIL 2012)
AlphaMetrix is a hedge fund management firm based out of downtown Chicago, Jason was brought in to help push forward a highly
custom architecture. The firm was in the process of launching a product with relatively undefined business parameters which
predicated the development of a rapidly customizable framework called Platypus. Platypus was actually similar to another
framework Jason had championed while at Triton-Tek and he was a natural fit on the project. The product was a professional
networking site in the hedge fund management space, a new way for investors and fund-managers to connect and do business.

RESUMEPRINT
NEUBERGER BERMAN – LEAD SOLUTIONS ARCHITECT
(FEBRUARY 2011 – OCTOBER 2011)
Jason was brought in to refactor and enhance an internal mortgage portfolio analysis tool in an effort to turn it into a platform for
sale to third-party financial institutions. In its current form, the tool runs a proprietary model simulating loan delinquency rates
across multibillion dollar mortgage portfolios under a two tier architecture where the application directly access the database.
.NET 4, C#, WPF, Prism 4, MVVM, SQL Server 2008 R2, ADO.NET Entity Framework 4, WCF, Sparx Enterprise Architect
• Led design and development of a multi-product solution evaluating mortgage loans and portfolios for asset management,
mortgaged backed securities trading and the procurement of loan tapes for modification and bilateral resolution.
• Redesigned business tier to support multiple projection models and provided a clean separation between various projection
components, including aggregated reporting, CSV file output and progress. This new business tier component is a pluggable API
and can easily be used by other applications.
• Led technical implementation of a new proprietary loan valuation model developed by the Neuberger Berman quantitative
analysis team.
• Led design and implementation of a POC application initially intended for use in a client demonstration using WPF 4 and MVVM,
developed in less than a week the application is actually being used for production purposes
• Refactored existing WPF application into an MVVM pattern using Prism 4, migrated charting and grid view components from
WPF Toolkit to Telerik RadControls.
NORTHERN TRUST BANK – SENIOR SOLUTIONS ARCHITECT
(JUNE 2009 – MARCH 2010)
The Northern Trust is a large Chicago based bank. Jason was brought in to architect the core framework which will be used by all
.NET 3.5 applications, including 90 applications which will be migrated from .NET 1.1. The components used centralized setting in
SQL Server 2005. .NET 3.5, SQL Server 2005, Oracle, Sybase, IBM DB2, C#, WCF, ASP.NET, WPF, Team Foundation Server 2008,
Powershell, Sparx Enterprise Architect
• Designed and led development of an enterprise wide application framework for .NET 3.5 SP1, including Security, Logging,
Exception Handling, Data Access and Desktop Deployment using Agile methodology
